Center for Performing Musical Theatre

Your Students Stage to Success

The Center for Musical Theatre at Julie Rohr Academy was formed to encourage and support students from Pre-School through 8th grade to excel in performing arts. The Center also provides quality entertainment for the community, but the reasons for doing shows go far beyond giving audiences an enjoyable evening. Performances are done for the children, and what they gain from these experiences could never come out of a textbook! They learn responsibility, develop self-confidence, and feel tremendously successful.

Tax deductible funding opportunities allow more resources to be allocated for our mission. The ultimate beneficiaries are the students and the community.

This year the musical we will be perorming The Music Man, a delight for all ages !

This past school year we performed "Babes in Arms". This is classic Rodgers and Hart musical. The show takes place at the Surf and Sand Playhouse in Cape Cod, where many young actors and actresses are working as apprentices for no pay in hopes of being "discovered." In addition to the apprentices, there is the ingenue, the producer, the villlain, the stage mother, the world's oldest living apprentice, and the very southern playwright. With characters like these, one can only imagine the funny situations that occur. Add professional lighting, sound, backdrops, and such fabulous tunes as "My Funny Valentine" and "Johnny One Note" and the result is a memorable evening for the audience!

Past Shows Include

2008 - Bye Bye Birdie

Conrad Birdie is a clone of "Elvis Presley". His vocal talent and hip swinging sends the ladies swooning before he joins the army. Which lucky lady will win the final kiss from Conrad?

2007 - Grease

Danny, Sandy and the whole gang finally come togethere in this great 50's musical. "Grease" is the word! Just ask the Pink Ladies.

2006 - Footloose

Will the high school kids finally get to dance in America's heartland? This musical drama reveals that with determination, you can achieve what you strive for.

Why Performing Arts?

We firmly believe that performing arts is of critical importance in developing the confidence and self-esteem of all children. The Center for Performing Musical Theatre at Julie Rohr Academy strives to do performances that encourage teamwork through singing, dancing, acting and public speaking. These skills will benefit the participants in a variety of ways and will last a lifetimes. From today's classroom to tomorrow's workplace, the experience encountered will guide students down the path to future success.

The Center for Performing Musical Theatre at Julie Rohr Academy produces five shows every year including Fall Follies, Frosty Follies, Spring Fling, and our spectacular full scale Broadway production.

While public schools are cutting the arts from their curriculum, the Center continuously strives to enrich students' education through a strong perfoming arts program.
